A lyrical triptych

The theme of this year’s exhibition is a textile triptych.

Based on the quotation from William Shakespeare’s “Tempest”, and in free adaptation, the artists were  invited to integrate their favourite material and tools of the trade – fabrics – into poetry: words, lines, a poem, whereby the written form is not necessarily essential for expressing the spirit of poetry.  A verse, a paragraph taken from a novel or a poem was inspiration for the composition of a triptych.  They interpreted a story with needle and thread or put on a “drama in three acts” as a textile work of art.

Whether it was a quotation from Tucholsky, Shakespeare, Fontane or Hesse, the magic of the words was the source of inspiration.  A theme that was both exciting and inspiring and which was sure the motivation for  producing creative quilts.  The 6th assessed quilt exhibition will be shown  from 6 June to 4 July 2010 in the Schwabenakademie in Irsee.The exhibition will then move on to the European Patchwork Meeting  in Val d’Argent, France,  to Guben in Eastern Germany and to Aarau in Switzerland.
